Training Info (Youth)
BSA offers several leadership training opportunities for youth leaders. Some of these training opportunities are offered at the Troop level, others at the District or Council level, and still others at the National level. The all have acronyms!

A few of the youth training courses you will hear most frequently mentioned in Troop 628 are described below.
Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST)
This course is offered at the Troop level, and replaces what used to be named Troop Leadership Training (TLT). It is required for youth holding leadership positions (each term). It is also a prerequisite for advanced leadership courses such as NYLT and NAYLE. (See below.) This course will be offered near election times.
National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)
This is a 6-day course offered through BSA Councils. It replaces what used to be called Junior Leadership Training (JLT). Check National Capital Area Council and Baltimore Area Council's websites for course dates offered in the summer. Warning--they fill fast!

National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience (NAYLE)
This is a week-long course that is offered at all three BSA High Adventure Bases (Philmont, Sea Base, and Northern Tier). NYLT is a prerequisite, and this course enhances leadership skills learned there.
Welcome to Den Chief Training!
This is an online course available for Scouts interested in becoming Den Chiefs. This course is required for those holding the Den Chief leadership position.
